Winter!: Prepare for holiday gaming!
As far as I'm concerned this is the pinnacle of the Mortal Kombat franchise, and one of my top fighting games of all time. To begin, the game has a lot of unique playing modes ranging from an adventure "Konquest" mode, a "Puzzle Kombat" mode, (Think a gory Robotnik's Bean Machine match with chibi MK characters) "Chess Kombat", (The only form of chess where a pawn can win single-handedly) and the basic arcade and vs modes. There's tons of misc unlockables as well and unlocking the entire "Krypt" (Where they're bought and displayed) will take tens of hours of gameplay to achieve. As for cast of characters, this game does an awesome job, though Jax and Reptile would seriously have been appreciated. Nevertheless, there is a satisfying number of my favs in the game (Kabal and Shao Kahn especially) and most people will probably find this to be the case. There's also some new stage innovations in the game to complement the fights, the most noticeable will be the rapidly contrasting backround on the tropical island stage. All the stages tend to have character and a lot of potential events, so a job well done on the environments as well.
As for the combat (sorry I mean "Kombat") this game uses a similar engine to Deadly Alliance in the game's appearance and in the three fighting style system, which is ever prominent. Since I only got to play DA for about 10 minutes before my copy stopped working I can't say what has been improved in the battle system other than it's at least just as good and likely better. Probably my only complaint with this game is its profile system which requires you to make a button combo password to access your profile. This is obviously annoying as there's no way to recover your password if you forget, and that little slip of paper you write it on will always be gone once you come back to the game after a few months. Naturally, this can be easily solved by recording it in a word document, but if your computer is out then good luck. Aside from that weird password thing, this is a masterpiece of a fighting game and an obvious must-play for fighter fans. (owned, completed, Accurate Score is 9.25)
