Winter!: Prepare for holiday gaming!
While this game was huge back when it came out, I've found that it has lost a lot of the attention it deserves nowadays. This game is one of the best on the PS2 and still amazes me with its surreal atmosphere, magically dreamy landscapes, and charismatic (and often humorous) narrated storytelling. Its platforming elements are also masterfully done and thoroughly engaging throughout the game's solid length. The combat is undeniably one of the more limited aspects of the gameplay, though it is presented with visual grace and excellent pacing, and manages to be continually thrilling as the enemies become more powerful. The use of the Sands themselves is a pretty interesting function in itself, proving to be very helpful with all the hazardous platforming. All of these elements manage to come together almost flawlessly and because of this I'm comfortable calling the game a masterpiece. It's definitely the type of game you have to play yourself to understand its magic, so track it down if you've never experienced it. (owned and completed, accurate rating is 9.25)
